The Joseph Briffa Bequest (1987)
Exhibitions featuring works by different Maltese artists posthumously is a series of exhibitions organised by Heritage Malta. An exhibition catalogue, written by noted Maltese art critics is published as part of the exhibition. ’The Joseph Briffa Bequest (1987)’ is written by Dennis Vella. Joseph Briffa’s works feature religious compositions, family portraits and Maltese landscape paintings. Joseph Briffa also applied his artistic talent on paintings on the ceilings of several churches in Malta and Gozo. At his death in 1987, Joseph Briffa chose to bequeath a number of his works to the National Museum. This bequest has ensured that a nucleus of his works has remained accessible to others who wish to learn more about one of Malta’s foremost artists of the twentieth century.
