Study Of Landscape & Irrigation Systems At Is – Simblija Limits Of Dingli, Malta & Conservation Project
ARAMIS 3
Monograph Series – Volume 3
The rural tenement at is-Simblija, overlooking the picturesque Wied Ħażrun in the agriculturally prosperous countryside west of Rabat, is a site which combines a quiet idyllic charm with a still untapped potential for medieval , and landscape archaeology.
In the 16th century, the tenement was a viridarium in the possession of the physician and popular hero Josephi Callus who, in 1561, was convicted of high treason and condemned to death. His name survives in folk memory as Matthew Callus.
