Society Fashion In Malta
The portrait photography of Leonardo Preziosi 1830-1869
Leandro Preziosi, a highly competent pioneer camera artist, was for fashion in Malta in the nineteenth century what Antoine Favray was for it in the eighteenth – without the benefit of colour. He recorded with loving precision what was indigenous in clothing, and what was cosmopolitan. His full-figure portraits immortalised the clothes of the sitters as an integral part of their persona.
