From Plymouth To Pieta HMS Hibernia, L-Arbanja at the Grand Harbour Malta
Continuing a series of books with the Malta Grand Harbour as background this monograph focuses on the three-decker HMS Hibernia built at Plymouth Dockyard in 1805 and broken up at Pieta almost a century later. After 1855 she became l-Arbanja, a much loved semi-permanent fixture in the Grand Harbour. this book explores the symbiosis between the Grand Harbour and the men ‘turned over’ on Hibernia over the years as well as the role of the ship as a courts of law, in Maltese medical history and the riddle of her disappearing masts. Her magnificent figurehead at the Malta Maritime Museum is a permanent witness to the enduring links between the Malta Grand Harbour and the Royal Navy.
