Naval Activities Of The Knights of St John 1530-1798
In 1530 the knights of St John found in Malta the necessary amenities for the smooth-running of their ships. Local craftsmen catered for the building and for the maintenance of the ships, while Maltese masters of small merchant ships maintained a steady mercantile activity providing the islands with the necessary provisions.
