More Glorious Food
Following the success of Glorious Food, published in 2009, Gloria Mizzi is back on bookshelves with More Glorious Food, featuring more recipes from the veteran TV presenter’s kitchen.
Over forty years ago, Gloria Mizzi introduced cooking to Maltese television and she has been Malta’s biggest household name ever since. Her books feature a collection of traditional and new recipes that she has tasted and prepared over the years, and they hail from all over the Mediterranean region – with an emphasis on some Maltese dishes which have been included by special request from readers.
Indeed,More Glorious Food consists of a number of popular Maltese recipes, such as mqarrun, braġjoli, stuffat tal-qarnit, mqaret and many more. “I assumed that everyone knew how to prepare Maltese dishes,” says Mizzi, “but I missed the fact that the younger generation is very keen on cooking and really appreciate our local fare.”
The eclectic mix of recipes results from her roaming childhood – Gloria Mizzi was born in Tripoli, she spent the war years in Italy, and finally moved to Malta. She learned the art of cooking from her Maltese-born mother and acquired a taste of North African cooking from her paternal grandmother.
Gloria has a proclivity for traditional wholesome food. Oftentimes, she follows traditional recipes to the letter; however in many, she adds her own touch. She has always believed in healthy eating – save for the odd calorie-laden but always mouth-watering dish. She also believes in using fresh seasonal produce, herbs and spices; and her recipes are mostly family-orientated and quick and easy to follow for a delicious, nourishing meal.
Like the first book, More Glorious Food is split into colourful chapters: Bits and Bites; Soups for the Soul; Pasta, Rice and Other Things Nice; For the Meat Lovers; Sourced from the Sea; Salad and Vegetable Delights; Dough Ideas; for the Sweet of Tooth; And There’s More, for some miscellaneous recipes; and a chapter dedicated to useful cooking hints.
