Josef Kalleya: Sculptor 1898-1998 – His Art, Dreams & Visions
Josef Kalleya (1898-1998) was a sculptor and a pioneer of modern artistic expression, a visionary artist, an alchemist, and as a theologian in his own right. The author bases his writing not on anecdotal accounts, but on primary sources such as the art itself; Kalleya’s writings; interviews with Kalleya; photographs Kalleya kept of his works; and other archival documents. He links Kalleya to other artists both local and foreign as well as differentiates him from them. Indeed, this is a definitive, comprehensive study and new critical perspectives on the life and work of Kalleya. This book represents a cohesive narrative framework for remembering and understanding Kalleya more broadly since most of his creations have been lost, destroyed, or remained only on the level of ideas as unrealised projects.
