Drawing As Language – The Concept Drawing Of Richard England
Donated to the University of Malta Gallery of Art by the artist himself, the Richard England Collection consists of over five hundred concept drawings for architectural projects. The drawings reveal the investigatory dialogue between mind and hand in the process of an architect searching for a final solution. In his essay, Prof. Keith Sciberras states: There is no other contemporary architect-artist in Malta whose concept drawings are so systematically part of the thought process of professional practice as Richard England, who strongly impacted the story of architecture in Malta between the 1960s and present day, as a practising architect, mentor, and opinion maker.
In archiving a considerable number of his concept drawings at the University of Malta Gallery of Art, Richard England has given permanence to the most fugitive moment of his architectural practice.
