2021 marked the 150th anniversary of the Richard Ellis studio being set up in Malta in 1871. The photographic legacy of this studio remains a precious part of Maltese cultural heritage in terms of historical value, artistic expression, and technical excellence. The book has an introduction, ‘150 years of photography preserving history for the future’ by Charles Paul Azzopardi and an essay, ‘The Family That Photographed a changing century’ by Ian Ellis. The book includes over 230 images, many of which never published before. The photos are presented in a way that covers all the oeuvre by Ellis and is divided into sections, namely port activities, portraits, views, events, medical and industrial equipment, architecture and interiors, royalty in Malta.
